Why choose a complete import restoration project?
We looked at all the options where purchasing of our camper van. The first consideration, a new Brazilian import to ensure reliability. Unfortunately we discovered they no longer has the lovely sounding air cooled engine.
Next the earlier production air-cooled imports from Brazil we inspected, were already suffering the effects of rust. The result of insufficient paint layers to cope with UK salt winter gritting. Rust proved a major issue with all other original UK registered camper vans we viewed.
The other problem with the Brazilian bay was the gearbox. The 1400cc engine and gearbox were designed for a small family car. Not to pull a minibus.
Our conclusion, buy a imported camper van from a country where rusting was not an concern. A late Bay model to benefit from the evolution of engineering development and the pulling power of the largest 2000 cc engine. Then design a camper to our own specification, completely rebuilt and updated for the modern driving and camping experience.
Components and parts have been inspected, overhauled or replaced to ensure Harold is like new, offering complete peace of mind. We also stock a number of spare replacement parts in the unlikely event of a breakdown including the Haynes repair manual, spark plugs, distributor cap, ignition leads, ignition points, rotor arm, replacement bulbs, drive belt, ignition coil, voltage regulator, clutch, handbrake and accelerator cables. Heavier items stored at our premises include spare starter and leisure batteries, alternator, starter motor and brake master cylinder.
In the unlikely event of a breakdown, (this is fifty five year old technology after all), Harold comes with comprehensive breakdown and recovery service. If they cannot get you going, the recovery company will recover you to our premises.
